Home Learning: Week 3 (4.5.20)

Maths: White Rose Maths https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/

We have had information telling us that soon White Rose Maths won't be providing the video tutorials for free anymore but their work will be closely linked with BBC Bitesize videos so make the most of this resource whilst it's still available. Don't worry if you don't have a printer, you can just discuss the work whilst looking at it on the screen and working on paper. We're hoping these videos make the Maths side of things much easier for parents and children.

Spellings: yesterday, tomorrow, later, immediately, earlier, eventually, recently, previously, finally, lately. See the listed files to helps support the learning of these spellings. Also see the document 'Year 5 and 6 Statutory Spellings.

English: See the attached files Week 3 Home Learning Pack and Guidance and Answers document. This does have Maths tasks in it too but its sets out a range of English activities to cover writing, reading and grammar in a day by day activity format.

General Resources

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/year-5-school-closure-home-learning-resource-pack-t-e-2549914 Twinkl have devised some home learning tasks which include writing ideas and reading comprehensions. This is the link to that page if anyone should wish to downlaod them.

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/ - This offers support in a range of Maths and English areas but we particularly like the 'book banded' e-books available. You will just need to create your own log in for free. Remember to keep reading. Any reading is good reading.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/zv48q6f - Check out the grammar and spelling tasks on here. There's also support for writing available too.

https://mathsframe.co.uk/ - Mathsframe offers practice materials within all subject areas in the form of short games. Chidlren get instant feedback on whether their responses are accurate and some demonstrate how to complete calculations. This coming week we were due to look at shape and then move onto statistics. A particular problematic area to also look at which can be relevant in many calculation processes is multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. You will need the school log in details for this.
